Video Box Cover
William Smith's biggest contribution to this horror movie was not his brief appearance in the beginning as a Major in Desert Storm who seemed a little too cavalier about the deaths of American soldiers killed in a helicopter crash caused by "friendly fire".   Bill makes a bigger impact with some stirring poetry about soldiers which he wrote and read over the end credits.

Bill's scene took place at night.  His appearance was brief before he was  riddled with bullets

The basic premise of Uncle Sam is that Sam Harper, killed by friendly fire in Kuwait, comes back from the dead to kill off everyone he finds to be insufficiently patriotic.  When alive Sam was an alcoholic bully who brutalized his sister and abused his wife and generally had little regard for his family.  But his memory is idolized by his sister's son Jody who's fixated on being a soldier and fascinated by all things military.  Sam's body is returned home for burial in the family plot.  His bloody rampage through this all-American  little town is finally put to an end when he's burned up and shot with a cannonball.  The show contains the usual unpleasant characters the audience is just as happy to see butchered, leaders who ignore obvious danger because they don't want to alarm the town and harmless folks who come to the rescue and are killed for their trouble.  And as is now standard, a teaser at the end which suggests the monster is not gone for good.

Bo Hopkins plays the sergeant who delivers the body to Sam's sister & nephew

NiteOwl Review:  A pretty standard horror film with better production values than many low budget films of this type.  We would have liked it better with more Bill of course.
