After Ezekiel Fry sees Reese’s inventor friend Major John open a jammed bank vault, he tricks the Major into opening the vault in a bank in Porfirio.  They also want him to help rob the Cattlemen’s Exchange.  He refuses.  In Porfirio, the Rangers find clues which point to the major’s involvement in the robbery.  Reese is kidnapped to gain the Major’s cooperation.  Chad & Joe use a dog Reese befriended to track him to the gang’s hideout.  In the meantime, the Major pretends to cooperate with plans for the robbery of the Cattlemen's Exchange by building a Rube Goldberg contraption which has the gang members in harnesses, swinging from rafters, being dropped down stovepipes, etc.  The Rangers overcome the gang with the help of the Major’s contraption.  [Joe’s armwrestling doesn’t advance the plot, but he looks good doing it.]
