SYNOPSIS
Governor Summerhayes brings news of the death of an old friend, shot in the back. In his pocket was an ad for gold miners which is really a scheme to lure workers to be used as forced labor in a coal mine. Young Zeke sees the same ad and goes to the mine. The Chamber of Commerce rescues Zeke and frees the miners.

The episode starts with Brodie protecting the town’s windows during baseball practice by shooting down foul balls. The game is interrupted by some escaped prisoners pursued by the hapless Pete Montana. The Chamber rounds them up just in time for the governor’s arrival with the news of their friend’s murder. When they discover Zeke has gone to the mine to seek his fortune, the Chamber’s latest “hunting trip” takes on greater urgency. | Shooting Down Foul Balls |
| With the help of Bannister’s
explosives, they capture one of Pike’s henchman. While Brodie &
Prometheus argue about who will scare Wiley into giving them the mine's
location, Varges applies shaving cream to the man’s face and starts “shaving”
him with his throwing knives.
|
Meanwhile, Zeke witnesses the murder of a miner, angers the mine owner by threatening to tell newspapers about his fraud & makes friends with the camp cook. When Zeke is ordered to feed some canaries in an old mine, the cook does it for him & is blown up in Zeke’s place. |
| Our heroes get into the mine using explosive baseballs and round up the bad guys with their unusual nonlethal methods including an exploding can of beans. Prometheus even manages to save the canaries from the mine. |
